EdTech 532 Syllabus - i.e. "How to Win"
How to WIN the game:
Let's face it, all classes are a game. We try and figure out what it takes to win from the moment we walk in. The way we prepare, interact, attend, study, and even talk with the teacher is built on assumptions we make about the winning condition of the course. These characteristics of the hidden game often distract from the learning and learning opportunities. Savvy teachers know this about "the game" and often create activities, assessments, and grading structures that try to slant this game in the favor of learning. All students look at the class with the natural question, "What do I need to do to get the grade I want?" This course is designed so that you can get an "A" AND learn everything you need to. The rules are exposed from the start: "It's simple, earn 3,000 XP, attend (in some cases view) the synchronous sessions, AND submit a completed final project and you get an A." Everyone can do it. If you are on schedule, you should complete a rank each week you are in class. You are able to do this by selecting the Quests that are the most interesting to you. Some activities are faster and easier, others more time consuming and complicated. By week 7, midway through the course, you should be at 1,500 XP for the course which should make the final 8 weeks to finish larger quests and actually allow you to finish the course early. How great is that? Any time you would like to see this ranking system, click on your own rank at the top, next to your name. At the beginning, it says "Candidate" For an overview showing how the system works, watch the video playlist below. It contains all the necessary info.Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsen5rg7Lb0&feature=youtu.be |
